On a Metric on Translation Invariant Spaces

In this paper we de ne a metric on the collection of all translation invarinat spaces on a locally compact abelian group and we study some properties of the metric space.

q-Stirling Identities Revisited

We give combinatorial proofs of q-Stirling identities using restricted growth words. This includes a poset theoretic proof of Carlitz’s identity, a new proof of the q-Frobenius identity of Garsia and Remmel and of Ehrenborg’s Hankel q-Stirling determinantal identity. We also develop a two parameter generalization to unify identities of Mercier and include a symmetric function version.

Rotationally Invariant 3-D Texture Classification

Textures appear in most natural images, but there is no precise mathematical definition of a texture. However, there are various descriptions of textures available in the literature. These approaches can be broadly classified as structural or deterministic, and stochastic [5, 7, 12, 19, 29]. The structural approach is more suitable for describing textures that can be formed by repeating a unit ...

Legitimation in Discourse and Communication Revisited: A Critical View towards Legitimizing Identities in Communication

The various and multifaceted wars in the Middle East have brought about weird complications in the already challenging multifarious international relations and interactions. The media coverage of terroristic threats in the Middle East and the European countries as well as United States has often targeted Muslim identity. The present study is aimed at analyzing Barack Obama's speech at Baltimore...

Riemannian Curvature and the Petrov Classification

Let M be a Lorentzian space-time manifold. If p G 31, let TV(M) denote the tangent space to M at p and let I e Tp (M ) be a null vector. Because of the identification of radiation in General Relativity with null geodesic congruences of curves in M, one is led to study the geometrical properties of the wave surfaces of I. These are the two dimensional subspaces of TP(M), each member of which is ...
